What We Clean

Different fabrics, finishes, and constructions require different processes. We assess every garment before choosing the method — not every garment that says "dry clean only" actually needs the same treatment.

Suits, Dress Shirts & Business Attire

Wool suits, structured blazers, dress shirts, and trousers lose their shape in a home washer. We clean and press business attire to a crisp finish — collar, lapel, and crease all attended to. Fort McMurray professionals going into site offices or downtown meetings trust us with their weekly work wardrobe.

Winter Coats & Parkas

Fort McMurray winters demand serious outerwear. We clean Canada Goose, Moose Knuckles, and down parkas without collapsing the insulation. The DWR water-repellent coating is maintained. Salt staining from winter roads — which leaves white tide marks — is properly treated rather than just machine-washed away.

Leather & Suede

Leather and suede cannot go in a standard dry cleaning machine — they require specific solvents, temperatures, and conditioning. We clean leather jackets, suede boots and coats, and leather accessories without the cracking, fading, or stiffening that improper cleaning causes. Conditioning is applied after cleaning.

Wedding Gowns & Bridal

Bridal gowns are typically beaded, embroidered, or made from delicate silk and organza that cannot withstand standard cleaning. We hand-inspect every seam and embellishment before and after cleaning. Preservation boxing in acid-free materials is available for long-term storage after the wedding.

FR Coveralls & Workwear

Flame-resistant garments require specific care — no chlorine bleach, no fabric softener, controlled water temperatures — or the FR treatment breaks down over time. Many Fort McMurray oil sands workers bring us their Nomex, Westex, and Bulwark coveralls. We follow the care label and manufacturer protocols for every FR brand we handle.

Duvets, Comforters & Bedding

King and queen duvets do not fit in residential machines — and improper drying causes mould inside the fill. We use large-capacity commercial equipment to wash and thoroughly dry bedding, including down, wool, and synthetic fills. Drapes and area rugs are also handled for household textile cleaning.

Silk, Cashmere & Delicates

Silk blouses, cashmere sweaters, and fine knitwear require wet cleaning or solvent processes at precise temperatures. We treat each piece individually rather than batching delicates together. Embellished or beaded items receive hand-finishing before return.

Traditional & Cultural Garments

Fort McMurray's multicultural community brings us saris, abayas, kurtas, kimonos, and cultural formal wear from around the world. We handle these garments with the care and process that their fabrics require — not treated as a standard dry-clean item if the construction demands otherwise.

Stain Removal & Restoration

Not all stains respond to standard cleaning. We pre-treat specific stain types — oil, wine, blood, grass, ink, grease — with targeted solutions before the main clean. Older or set stains are assessed honestly: we tell you what is achievable before committing to anything. Some restoration is possible; some is not, and we will say so.

Why Sunshine, Not the Other Options

Cleaned Here, Not Sent Out

Your garments are cleaned in Fort McMurray by our team, not shipped to an Edmonton facility and returned days later. When you call with a question, the person who cleaned it is in the building.

Garment-by-Garment Assessment

Every item is inspected — fabric type, construction, care label, stains, and condition — before we decide which process to use. The same ticket price for a "shirt" does not mean the same process for a silk blouse versus a cotton Oxford.

Serving Fort McMurray Since 2013

We have been operating in Fort McMurray for over a decade. The team that cleans your garments today has seen every fabric type the Wood Buffalo climate demands — from wool suiting to winter parkas to oil sands FR gear.

How We Clean Your Garments

Every garment goes through the same four-stage process regardless of how simple or complex the job is. Want more detail? Read our full dry cleaning explainer →

1

Inspection

Every garment is examined individually — fabric type, care label, construction, stains, and condition. We identify problem areas and flag anything that needs special handling before it goes near any cleaning machine.

2

Pre-Treatment

Stains are treated individually with targeted solvents matched to the stain type — oil and grease, protein-based stains, tannin stains, and dye transfer each respond to different pre-treatment chemistry applied by hand before the main cleaning cycle.

3

Dry Cleaning

Garments are cleaned in our professional machines using the solvent and cycle appropriate to the fabric — not a one-size-fits-all run. Delicates, structured garments, and specialty fabrics are cleaned on separate, controlled cycles to prevent damage.

4

Finishing & Press

Cleaned garments are pressed and finished by hand — collars, lapels, creases, and hems attended to individually. Each piece is inspected a second time before bagging. If anything doesn't meet our standard it goes back through rather than out the door.

Dry Cleaning FAQs

Care, turnaround, what we clean, and how we handle specialty items.

What is dry cleaning and which garments need it?

Dry cleaning is a professional cleaning process that uses chemical solvents instead of water. Water causes many fabrics to shrink, warp, lose colour, or lose their structure — dry cleaning avoids these problems. Garments that typically require dry cleaning include wool suits, structured blazers, silk blouses, cashmere sweaters, formal gowns and evening wear, wedding dresses, velvet and rayon fabrics, heavily beaded or embellished garments, leather and suede, and most garments whose care label says "dry clean only" or "dry clean recommended." In Fort McMurray, we also dry clean FR coveralls and flame-resistant workwear following manufacturer protocols, since incorrect home washing degrades the FR treatment over time. If you are unsure whether your garment needs dry cleaning, bring it in — our team can assess the fabric and care label and recommend the best process. We have handled the full range of fabric types for over a decade.

How long does dry cleaning take in Fort McMurray?

At Sunshine Dry Cleaners in Fort McMurray, standard turnaround for most garments is two to three business days. Common items — dress shirts, pants, suits, blouses, and regular coats — are typically ready within that window. Specialty or complex items require more time: wedding dresses and bridal gowns need five to seven business days for proper cleaning, inspection, and pressing; leather and suede jackets often need four to five days; large household items like duvets and drapes take three to four days depending on volume. Rush service is available for many standard garments — if you need something by a specific date, mention it at drop-off and we will confirm what is achievable. We hold cleaned garments for up to 30 days, so you do not need to pick up immediately if your schedule is busy. Standard hours are Monday to Friday 9 am to 6 pm, Saturday 10 am to 5 pm.

What types of items do you clean?

Sunshine Dry Cleaners handles a wide range of garments and household textiles. For clothing: suits (men's and women's), dress shirts, blouses, pants, skirts, dresses, gowns, tuxedos, sport jackets, blazers, sweaters, vests, ties, gloves, scarves, coats and jackets, Canada Goose and down parkas, silk garments, cashmere, leather and suede jackets, and traditional and cultural garments from any country. For specialty items: wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses, formal wear, FR coveralls and Nomex workwear, and embellished or beaded garments. For household textiles: duvets and comforters (all fills), bedspreads, sheets, pillows, drapes and curtains, area rugs, table linens, and slip covers. We also clean shoes and Uggs, luggage, sports equipment, car and boat covers, and mascots. If you have a specific item and are not sure, call (587) 276-2998 or walk in to ask.

Can you remove tough stains from garments?

Sunshine Dry Cleaners treats a wide range of stain types before the main cleaning process. We have professional-grade spot removers for oil and grease, wine and juice, ink and ballpoint pen, makeup and foundation, blood and protein-based stains, grass, coffee, and many other common stains. Fresh stains are significantly easier to remove than set-in or dried stains that have already oxidized into the fibre. Older stains — particularly those that have been home-washed and heat-dried — may be partially or fully permanent regardless of professional treatment. Dye transfer (where one fabric dyed another) is among the hardest to reverse. We will always give you an honest assessment of what is achievable before committing to a result. Some stains can be reduced or removed completely; others can only be faded. We never promise results we cannot deliver, and we will tell you upfront if a stain is likely permanent so you can make an informed decision.

Do you clean leather, suede, and wedding dresses?

Yes. Leather, suede, and wedding gown cleaning are specialty services we have offered since 2013. Leather jackets and suede items cannot go through a standard dry cleaning machine — they require specific solvents, controlled temperatures, and manual conditioning afterward to restore the texture and prevent cracking or stiffening. We clean leather and suede, then condition the material before return. Wedding gowns require individual assessment: the fabric (silk, organza, chiffon, satin), the embellishments (beading, embroidery, lace), and the structure all affect the cleaning process. We hand-inspect every seam and embellishment before and after cleaning. Preservation boxing in acid-free materials is available for brides who want to store the gown long-term. We recommend bringing your gown in for cleaning as soon as possible after the wedding — stains from food, sweat, and champagne set permanently if left too long. Call (587) 276-2998 for bridal cleaning appointments.

How much does dry cleaning cost in Fort McMurray?

Dry cleaning prices at Sunshine Dry Cleaners vary by garment type and the process required. Standard items — dress shirts, blouses, pants, and basic skirts — are priced at the lower end. Suits, dresses, and structured jackets are mid-range. Specialty items including leather, suede, wedding gowns, large coats, and FR coveralls are priced based on the specific work required and are typically quoted in person. Household textiles like duvets, drapes, and large rugs are quoted by size. We do not publish a fixed price list online because garment condition, fabric type, and required treatment all affect the final price — two "suits" can require very different amounts of work. The most reliable way to get an accurate quote is to bring your item in or call (587) 276-2998. Walk-in estimates are always free. Commercial accounts receive volume pricing and consolidated billing.
